Although he didnrsquo;t have an education past 6th grade, Jim Smith was extremely intuitive when it came to designing. After dropping out of school in 6th grade, Jim fiddled with a number of different jobs such as cutting wood, distributing liquor, and campaigning in motorcycle racing and outboard boat racing. Jim became very successful in the boat racing industry and it led him to a Johnson outboard distributorship. A short while after that, Jim decided he wanted to start building his own boats.

In 1959, Jim had constructed his first boat and named it the Boca Jima as he was living in Boca Raton, Florida. His astonishing project showed his passion for innovation and diverse background. The boat was cold molded with double diagonal cedar and epoxy resin making it strong, lightweight, and fast. He designed a pod-like tower supported on four aluminum sailboat mast extrusions to enhance its aerodynamics. He also added a very unique feature--an elevator to take the skipper aloftmdash;due to a previous motorcycle crash that left him with a wooden leg. When on fishing charters, he would keep the elevator in the up position so his guests would not bother him.

By 1994, Jim Smith had passed away and his longtime friend and co-worker, John Vance, kept the shop open for production. Vance has carried on the tradition of building quality Jim Smith sport fishing boats over the years.

Today, the Jim Smith brand starts each build by developing the customerrsquo;s ideas and thoughts into the footprint they are looking for. Smithrsquo;s team of craftsmen and technicians create 3 dimensional drawings of the entire boat to show the customer exactly what the finished product will look like. This technology ensures that the customer is completely satisfied before the team begins to construct the boat. The team also collaborates with a prestigious naval architect, Donald Blount, for the designing of the hydro dynamics and marine engineering of the hull. They believe in using only the finest grade of marine materials available to construct a boat that will last for generations to come. Jim Smith boats are built to handle all sea conditions over long distances with the main priority being centered around safety.

In the early 1980rsquo;s, Richard Garlington was not a fan of the boats available so he decided to construct his own. He knew he could not do it by himself so he went to a longtime friend, U.S. Navy submarine designer Dan McCarthy, to ask for help. Richard and Dan combined their efforts and ideas to build a soft-riding hull with a running surface that could slice through rough seas while maintaining great tractability, safety, and comfort. It was from that point on that Garlington boats became a force in the sportfishing industry.

By 1987, the Landeweer family came along and noticed the opportunity of a successful company in building high quality, fast, custom convertible fishing boats. At that point, the Landeweer family decided to purchase Garlington Marine which was located in Stuart, Florida. Before the transaction, Garlington was already an established builder with a high reputation in building custom sportfishing yachts. The Landeweer plan was to take the Garlington brand to the next level. Soon after the change of ownership, the new Garlington Landeweer brand switched from cold-molded wood construction to molded fiberglass construction.

Garlington Landeweer prides itself on emphasizing the simple nature of a top-notch sport fishing boat. They focus on building boats with an ultra-clean low profile look and a simplistic design with high running speed and logically placed fishing amenities to ensure an easily functional sport fishing boat. The brand strictly builds its boats with a mind of fishability and it shows in the cockpit where amenities are abundant and arranged perfectly. The boat has plenty of rod holders and a ton of space for fish and bait storage. In the Garlington Landeweer brand, nothing necessarily jumps off of the page at you but each delivered boat has a complete fishing package that has brought respect to the company from around the world.

Growing up in the small town of Wanchese, North Carolina, Ricky Scarborough was a natural when it came to commercial fishing and working on boats. Fishing and boating were a way of life for Ricky throughout the vast part of his childhood and early adult years. By the time Ricky was 30 years old, he was in desperate need of a worthy commercial fishing boat but didnrsquo;t have the money to buy one. The only option he had was to build his own. That was exactly what he did and by 1978, Ricky had built his first shop on the water and started the company, Scarborough Boatworks.

Over the past 40+ years, Scarborough has built and delivered over eighty custom boats ranging from 25 feet to 85 feet. Carrying on the illustrious boatbuilding tradition of Carolina, Scarborough considers the process of building boats a fine art. The brand meticulously builds boats by balancing the best craftsmanship with a practical and innovative design. The final product features a legendary seaworthiness and an interior that will blow your mind.

Scarborough Boatworks offers two distinct styles to provide customers with a choice between a more traditional style of a Scarborough boat or one with a sleeker modern design. The personalized building process gives the ability to satisfy each and every customer need or want to ensure that their buying experience is exceptional across the board. Every single detail is designed around the customerrsquo;s personalized vision and artistry of how their dream boat should look and feel. Scarborough Boatworks combines the technology of today and tomorrow with superior craftsmanship and a championship spirit to manufacture each individual boat.

The largest Scarborough hull built to date is the 85-foot Maverick. Maverick features a centerline engine room hatch that offers easy access to a comfortable and complete crewrsquo;s headquarters including a half galley and private laundry. This masterpiece also includes a VIP suite, a master suite, and three guest staterooms which is truly unique for a sportfishing boat. All moldings are hand carved and finishes are very exclusive. The flybridge contains enough room for half of a basketball court forward of the console. All around, this phenomenal boat utilizes every inch of space in a very functional fashion.

The Hatteras tradition all began back in 1959 when Willis Slane envisioned building a boat that could conquer the waters of Diamond Shoals and surmount the weather of Cape Hatteras. Diamond Shoals is home to some of the most violent and unstable waters in the Atlantic but is also home to some of the best sportfishing on the planet. To be able to fish and survive in these conditions, Slanersquo;s boat would have to be very powerful and rugged. He knew that he had to do something different to achieve his dream so he chose a new material known as fiberglass to build his boat. The result was a 41-foot fiberglass sportfisherman that revolutionized the industry.

Soon after, the market was in demand for bigger boats so Hatteras began building sportfishers from 50 feet up to 105 feet. From that original breakthrough boat to each cutting-edge yacht that has followed, Hatteras has provided a world class level of craftsmanship dedicated to perfecting each and every detail and surpassing all expectations. You can see the championship spirit in the Hatteras brand by the obsessive work of the entire team that pours their heart into building every single legendary yacht.

Hatteras Yachts pride themselves in the innovative approach they take. Although they have built the first fiberglass vessel and pioneered the convex modified V-Hull, Hatteras continues to focus on what is next.

Today, Hatterasrsquo;s modified convex V-Hull allows for optimal performance under a wide range of harsh conditions. The double chine and side step outs offer a dryer ride as well as create more interior space. Hatteras has designed their own multi-bladed hybrid propellers that improve the fuel efficiency, reduce vibration, and provide a smooth quiet ride. Custom finishing and design is available throughout the entire boat to ensure every moment aboard a Hatteras reflects onersquo;s personal vision and a pursuit of life without limits.

Recently, Hatteras Yachts has been proud to announce that its new 70 Motor Yacht made the Robb Reportrsquo;s ldquo;Best of the Bestrdquo; awards list for 2016. The noteworthy yacht has an inspired Mediterranean style and a legendary performance. Robb Report called the yacht ldquo;sexyrdquo; in recognizing the success of transforming and elevating the appearance of the Hatteras motor yacht series. The yacht contains an expansive flybridge with multiple seating options and sunbathing area. Surrounded by panoramic windows, the Hatteras 70 features an open concept deckhouse salon and galley arrangement that sets a new standard of excellence. Down below are a full master suite, a VIP suite, and two guest staterooms which all are elegantly designed and furnished.
