Whiticar Joins Forces with Garlington Landeweer

After a few years removed from the boatbuilding industry, John Whiticar and his team have decided to get back to work. However, rather than ramping up with equipment and manpower, Whiticar Boat Works has formed a joint venture with Garlington Landeweer to build new custom sportfishing yachts. This plan arose during last yearrsquo;s Custom Shootout in the Bahamas, when the two iconic builders had a discussion kicking around the idea of constructing boats together as one team. John Whiticar talked with Peter Landeweer about the difficulties of starting back up again after taking a few years off and Peter agreed to help by joining forces with him. They will both have ownership in the projects and will each sign off on everything before beginning construction.

The new 72-footer, designed by naval architect Erwin Gerard, will feature a beam of 20 feet 6 inches, and it will have a four-stateroom, four-head layout in addition to a full salon, galley and large cockpit with a mezzanine. The new Whiticarwill be 100 percent composite,with the traditional Whiticar lines married to a modern hull design. Engineering and design will utilize state-of-theart 3-D software. enabling parallel production of the hull, superstructure, interior and other components of the boat. This will allow the team to build the boat in as little as 24 months, much faster than building a cold- molded boat one component at a time. And while the motor package is not yet finalized, Whiticar describes his expectations for the boat: ldquo;Whiticar boats have always been known for their ride and seaworthiness. But one of the issues with building a cold-molded boat is being able to maintain panel strengths and meet all of the specifications to make a safe and sturdy boat. This causes the boats to get a little heavy. The composite construction will allow us to build the boat a bit lighter. People are always talking about fuel consumption and, of course, speed, so the composite construction will affect both of those things.rdquo;

The team also recently completed the drawings for a 63-footer, which will resemble the same basic design as the 72. It is too early in the design process to give further details of the project, but Peter Landeweer adds: ldquo; We are a specialized custom ndash; boat company and will not be limited to just one or two models. If a client comes to us and wants an 82-foot boat, we will be able to accommodate it.rdquo; Whiticar says:ldquo; We are joining the best of both companies with this collaboration. Whiticar Boat Works has traditionally built boats on a time and materials basis with a cap and a basic price in the contract. There are relatively few clients out there willing to go into a project like this today, but Peter [Landeweer] is used to building on a cost basis. This is an advantage to the client because they will know exactly what the price is going to be with no surprises.rdquo; While still on the drawing board at this point, the new 72 Whiticar is the kind of boat for someone who doesnrsquo;t want to look like everyone else. It will retain a look that is loyal to its rich pedigree, with the added benefits of being modern, lighter and faster to meet the needs of today s boat owners.

22nd Annual Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade

A premier event of the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County and gift to the community, the 2016 22nd Annual Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade kicks off the holiday season this year on Saturday, December 3

The parade will begin at the north end of the Lake Worth Lagoon and proceed north on the Intracoastal Waterway to the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. Tens of thousands of spectators will come out to enjoy the procession of more than 50 decorated vessels sparkling on the Intracoastal Waterway beneath a backdrop of phenomenal traveling fireworks. There will be extended fireworks at North Palm Beach Marina, Jupiterrsquo;s Plaza Down Under on the Riverwalk and Harbourside Place, plus a grand finale at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse courtesy of Square Grouper Tiki Bar, Jettyrsquo;s and U-Tiki. Popular viewing locations include: Juno Park, Bert Winters Park, Sawfish Bay Park, and Lighthouse Park.

This year we are excited to welcome local country singer/songwriter and American Idol finalist Emily Brooke as a grand marshal joining Mo and Sally from KOOL 105.5 on the Loggerhead Marina Grand Marshal Boat.

The Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade benefits the U.S. Marine Reserves Toys for Tots Program. Last year, the MIAPBC collected thousands of toys for needy children in Palm Beach County making this event one of the top toy collecting events in Palm Beach County. Toy donations can be dropped off at dozens of local businesses (listed at palmbeachboatparade.com), or picked up dockside during the parade by a fleet of marked toy boat volunteers by waving a flashlight.

Boat entries will be accepted through November 30. Boat entry is free and open to boats of all sizes. Judging is based on three factors: lights, enthusiasm and overall effect. The top three boats in each size category, plus ldquo;Best of Parade, rdquo; win a total of more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.

This is a once a year event that you do not want to miss out on

The founder of Tribute Performance Boats, Rich Scheffer Sr., was the lead builder for the legendary boat building pioneer, Jim Smith. While leading the Jim Smith team, Scheffer went on to build some of the most advanced and fastest sportfishers in the world. Once the older Jim Smith passed away, Scheffer went on to start his own boat building company, now known as Tribute Performance Boats, as a tribute to his longtime friend and mentor. Over the years, the Tribute brand has produced some of the fastest and most fuel-efficient performance sportfishing boats on the water. Schefferrsquo;s first two builds were for race car pioneers Mark Manley and Dick Moroso. They wanted a boat that would perform like their race cars. They went to Scheffer to build them a fast, strong, stable, and superbly engineered sportfishing boat. These two superior boats quickly became known for their speed and performance in the sportfishing industry.

In business for over 21 years now, Tribute has remained at the forefront in the industry of building performance sportfishing boats. Since the beginning, Tribute has been focused on Schefferrsquo;s founding guidelines of form, function, world-class quality, fuel efficiency, and unrivaled performance. They have been dedicated to growing with technology and really listening to customersrsquo; ideas, wants, and needs to ensure they deliver the upmost luxury and well performing boats around.

Tributersquo;s service and refitting projects are second to none as they are specifically tailored to meet the wants and needs of each yacht owner. It is their mission to provide minimal downtime for customers as they know the time spent on the water is precious. Most of Tributersquo;s team has spent most of their career working on commercial and military vessels giving them a wealth of experience in dealing with everyday issues related to yacht operation, service, and repair. They offer full service, repair, and refitting out of their conveniently located Jupiter facility.

Tribute is currently working on two different refit and refresher projects of a Tribute 61rsquo; and a Tribute 63rsquo;. To view more on these projects and read more about the Tribute brand please click on the link below.

Growing up on the outer banks of North Carolina, Paul Mann was a successful charter boat mate and a well-known sportfishing captain who had a special talent for building boats. Paul started his boat building business in 1988 with a vision of becoming a world class boat manufacturer. Paulrsquo;s different experiences in the industry growing up make him exceptionally qualified to design and formulate his idea of superior sportfishing vessels. Using his knowledge of sportfishing, traditional boatbuilding techniques, modern materials, and an eye for detail, Paul Mann has built some of the most successful tournament sportfishers in the world.

The combination of superb techniques, the newest and finest materials, remarkable technology, and a consistent process are what makes Paul Mann boats so special. Paul Mann limits his team to building only 3 boats at a time to ensure better control of quality and a higher attention to detail. Paul oversees every project and allows clients to watch in on any and every step of the way. The Paul Mann brand places its focus on the customizability to match each clientrsquo;s imagination and lifestyle.

The core of each Paul Mann boat is a traditional wood plank on frame construction with plywood overlay. Tricel, honeycomb, decolite, and foam are some of the newer tricks Paul Mann uses to make his brand of boats lighter than those of comparable size. The set-up process is versatile as they use batons to shape the shear and chine facilitates changes in length, width, and height which keeps costs to a minimum. Although the Paul Mann brand prides itself in producing superior sportfishing machines, it is the extraordinary interiors that makes these boats known around the world. Today, Paul Mann Custom Boats operates out of a 40,200-square foot facility in Manns Harbor, North Carolina.

The 57-foot NAIRA, a Paul Mann sportfishing monster, just took 1st place in the highly competitive fishing tournament known as the 2016 Aruba Caribbean Cup. Paul Mann also had its 58-foot ALINA take 3rd place in the tournament. This just goes to show how well the Paul Mann brand performs in the sportfishing industry.

Paul Mann is currently in the process of building a 76-footer and a 61-footer, both cold molded jig boats. To view photos of the construction process, please visit the link below.
