2018 Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade

For the 24th year in a row, the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County (MIAPBC) is kicking off the holiday season by hosting the Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade.

From center consoles to pleasure yachts, dozens of South Florida boats will be decking their hulls in colorful lights and cruising through the intracoastal for a spectacular show of holiday spirit. The parade will be led by a Zambelli Fireworks travelling display,nbsp; will begin at the north end of Lake Worth Lagoon a 6 pm, and will travel north on the intracoastal to end with a grand finale at the Jupiter Lighthouse around 8pm, courtesy of Jettyrsquo;s, Square Grouper, and U-Tiki.

Mo and Sally from KOOL 105.5 will be aboard the Loggerhead Marina Grand Marshal Boat, and the big man himself- Santa Clause will be aboard the last boat of the parade.

The Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade benefits the U.S. Marine Reserves Toys for Tots Program and Little Smiles of South Florida. In 2017, the MIAPBC collected more than 11,000 toys for needy children in, making this event one of the top toy collecting events in Palm Beach County. View multiple toy drop-off locationsnbsp;HERE.

The Palm Beach Holiday Boat Parade will award over $10,000 in cash and prizes to multiple boats, including standouts in each size category, a ldquo;Best of Paraderdquo; winner, and a new social media contest. Boats of all sizes are welcome, and there is no entry fee required. Judging will be based on lights, enthusiasm, and themed deacute;cor.

Holiday Boat Parade Watch Party in Harbourside Place to Benefit AustinBlu Foundation

The best place to watch the parade is from the rooftop of Jupiterrsquo;s Harbourside Place, so this year they are generously hosting a Holiday Boat Parade Watch Party to benefit the AustinBlu Foundation.

In case yoursquo;re not a Jupiter local, the AustinBlu Foundation is very close to our communityrsquo;s hearts. The foundation was formed in the wake of a tragedy involving two young boys who were lost at sea on July 24th, 2015. Their love for the ocean reminds Jupiter boaters to take great joy in boating, but to respect the majesty of the sea by taking precautions to prevent this devastating accident from happening again. AustinBlu is dedicated to raising awareness, providing education, and promoting technology such as EPIRBs (emergency position-locating radio beacon) to promote boater safety.

This exclusive event will run from 6:00PM until 9:00PM, and will include dinner and an open bar. Tickets are $150 per person, and can be purchased atnbsp;www.austinblufoundation.org/shop. Space for this popular event is limited, so purchase your ticket soon

The Florida ldquo;cold snaprdquo; this weekend has lows in the 60rsquo;s rolling through, producing ideal conditions for sailfish cruising through. Kitefish with goggle eyes in 120-250rsquo; of water, and after your first sail, target a tighter area around that depth. A few dolphin are still in the equation off Palm Beach Inlet, but no strong numbers seem to be showing up.

The snapper bite has been solid lately, with large muttons and yellowtail congregating on the reef. Live ballyhoo, sardines, or midsized pinfish work great.

Inshore fishing has slowed down quite a bit, with Snooknbsp;and redfish becoming finicky to the tide. Yoursquo;ll have to feel out each spot for what tide works best, and keep a close eye on it once you figure it out.

The Juno Beach pier has been showing some good-sized Spanish mackeral, as well as bluefish, jacks, and ladyfish. The pier opens at 6 a.m., so take advantage of the low-lit morning as early as you can. Donrsquo;t forget to bundle up nbsp;

Saturday, 11/17: Mostly Sunny, High of 78 degrees, Northeast winds at 10-15 knots, 2-3rsquo; seas at 6 second periods, Intracoastal waters a moderate chop.

This past weekend, a fleet of 48 boats shed their summer skin to register for this yearrsquo;s Dust lsquo;Em Off Sailfish Warmup. A multi-inlet tournament, boats fished from Jupiter Inlet to Islamorada to kick off the sailfish season in South Florida.

With fall weather rolling in, fishing proved to be heating up with a total of 107 sailfish releases. 39rsquo; SeaVee BLUE TALES captained by Samy Arriaga claimed victory with 6 sailfish releases. 48rsquo; Viking DAY SEA captained by Kyle Sherman took second releasing 6 sailfish. Third place was scored this year by ONE UP captained by JC Cleare with 6 sailfish. Kevin Cabrera fishing aboard ANGLER MANAGEMENT claimed top angler with 3 sailfish releases.

This yearrsquo;s charter boat division consisted of 4 boats. Capt. Jimmy David on his Key Biscayne based charter boat L amp; H lead his crew to the victory with 5 sailfish. Capt. Nel Martinez on TOP GUN II / NO LIMITS secured second with 3 sailfish followed by the LISA L captained by Mike Puller with 2 sailfish. The L amp; H also had the top junior angler, Nathan Miller, who caught one of their 5 fish. Cheyenne Considine took top Female angler with 2 sailfish who fished aboard the MISS MICHELLE with Capt. Shannon Kelleher. Top fun fish was a 34.85 lb. wahoo caught aboard the KNOT 4 PLAY who took home a crisp $10,500.

An addition to Dust lsquo;Em Off this year is the semi-professional division, in which 14 boats competed. BELLA VITA captained by Keith Staffen took first place with 6 sailfish releases, OUTNUMBERED took second place with 2 sails, and BRANCH OFFICE took third place with 2 sails.

ldquo;This yearrsquo;s tournament continues to show how there can still be affordable, yet lucrative tournaments held in South Florida,rdquo; said tournament director Capt. Ben Sharpe. ldquo;The continued growth over the last 5 years show that there is a competitive thirst that not only seasoned tournament teams have, but also guys that would be considered recreational anglers have as well. The Dustrsquo;em Off Sailfish Warmup will strive to continue with a fun first direction in the years to come.rdquo;

The game offshore this weekend goes to sailfish, snappers, and gaffers. Sailfish are strong just in time for thenbsp;Dust lsquo;Em Off Tournament, with releases in the double digits. Kite fishing with live goggle-eyes or blue runners in 100-300rsquo; should entice a few sails. While dolphin schoolies are abundant, a few gaffers have been chasing ballyhoo and bonita strips in the 150-600rsquo; range. Trolling with small feathers during lowlight should help you catch a few football-sized blackfin tuna, and the smaller ones can be used to catch wahoo. If youre thinking of heading to the Bahamas for the first time, readnbsp;How to Cross From Florida to the Bahamas By Boat.

Large mutton snapper have been pretty hot lately, with plenty of yellowtail action on the reef as well. Mutton snappers are mixed throughout the reef. Sardines or larger live baits, such as ballyhoo or midsized pinfish, work best.

Mullet are still running withnbsp;snooknbsp;nbsp;close behind. Live mullet or top water plugs at low-lighted times of the day near bridges, Juno Pier, Jupiter Jetty, or Palm Beach Inlet should bring you some bites during outgoing tides.

The Juno Beach pier and the beach has been pretty solid, with lots of bluefish, large mackerel, jacks, runners, pompano, jacks, and redfish.nbsp;A Rapala X-Rap or Yo-Zuri Mag Darter should serve up some solid action. Mangrove snapper have been feasting on live shrimp at the pier this week as well.

NOAA Weather Forecast:

Friday, 11/9: Mostly Sunny with a 20 chance of showers, High of 84 degrees, East winds at 5-10 knots,nbsp;2rsquo; seas at 3 second periods, Intracoastal waters anbsp;lightnbsp;chop.

Saturday, 11/10: Mostly Sunny with a 20 chance of showers, High of 83 degrees, North winds at 5 knots becoming north northeast 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon, 2-3rsquo; seas at 8 second periods, Intracoastal waters a light chop.

Sunday, 11/11: Partly Sunny with a 40 chance of thunderstorms, High of 83 degrees, East northeast winds at 10-15 nbsp;knots, seasnbsp;2-3rsquo; with occasional 6rsquo;, Intracoastal waters a moderate chop.

Sailfish are biting from Stuart to Boca in the 150-300rsquo; range, with a few boats releasing 10+ sails. Try kite fishing with hearty live baits like goggle-eyes or blue runners. Trolling with small feathers during lowlight should help you catch a few football-sized blackfin tuna, and the smaller ones can be used to catch wahoo, which has been hot due to this mild cold front, especially in the Bahamas. If youre thinking of heading to the Bahamas for the first time, readnbsp;How to Cross From Florida to the Bahamas By Boat.

Fair numbers of snapper have been prevalent around 100rsquo; off of Jupiter, with a few cobia here and there as well.

The cold front has slowednbsp;snooknbsp;down a bit, but mullet are still running. Live mullet or top water plugs at low-lighted times of the day near bridges, Juno Pier, Jupiter Jetty, or Palm Beach Inlet should bring you some bites during outgoing tides.

The Juno Beach pier and the beach has been pretty sold, with lots of bluefish, large mackerel, jacks, runners, pompano, jacks, and redfish.nbsp;Juno Baitnbsp;recommends a Rapala X-Rap or Yo-Zuri Mag Darter for some solid action. Mangrove snapper have been feasting on live shrimp at the pier this week as well.
