2020 Silver Sailfish Derby Sold Out

Established in 1935 by the West Palm Beach Fishing Club, the Silver Sailfish Derby is the oldest running sailfish tournament in the world. Limited to 50 boats, the 2020 Derby is sold out.

The Silver Sailfish Derby is a tournament with a massive amount of history, credited with developing the red release pennant and as one of the front-runners in promoting catch and release. Ernest Hemingway was a Derby trophy sponsor at one point, and the only time the tournament didnrsquo;t run was for three years during WWII.

The Derby features a two-day, Thursday amp; Friday, fishing format - a measure that was taken to avoid competition with weekend anglers and to foster increased tournament participation.

The 2020 Schedule of Events are as follows:

Tournament Captainrsquo;s meeting at the historic WPBFC clubhouse (201 5thnbsp;St., WPB, 33401). Receive boat kits and review Derby rules. Sample Titorsquo;s Handmade Vodka and enjoy cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks. Delicious chicken amp; seafood paella will be cooked onsite. Billfish Foundation tags, derby dinner tickets and tournament merchandise will be available for purchase. Mandatory attendance from at least one crew member.

2020 Winner’s Circle Charities Fishing Tournament Full Steam Ahead

As we ring in 2020, we reflect on a turbulent year helping our friends at Old Bahama Bay rebuild after Hurricane Dorian. Winnerrsquo;s Circle Charities was the first organization cleared by the President of OBB to arrive at the docks, and swiftly organized donation drop-off locations, sponsored Costco trips, and secured hundreds of boats to respond to the needs of families and friends in the Bahamas. Rest assured, OBB is back and better than ever If it wasnrsquo;t for the Winnerrsquo;s Circle Charities Fishing Tournament every year, Winnerrsquo;s Circle Charities would not have had the immediate resources available to facilitate such a timely response, so thank you so much to every team who participates every single year

ldquo;Wersquo;re excited to be able to have OBB as our host for our 21st year,rdquo; Said Mike Schmidt, Baseball Hall of Famer and founder of Winnerrsquo;s Circle Charities, ldquo;And we look forward to the fishing, festivities, and familiar faces that make this tournament one of the best in the Bahamasrdquo;

The preparations fornbsp;the 2020 Reel Gala and Fishing Tournamentnbsp;are well underway. The Reel Gala and Casino Night will once again be hosted at The Club at Admirals Cove on April 4th, and this year the theme will be ldquo;Boogie Nightsrdquo;, so wear your best 70rsquo;s attire

A few weeks later on April 22nd, we will head over to the Bahamas to fish the annual Winnerrsquo;s Circle Charities Fishing Tournament As usual, the Grand Champion is the boat who weighs in the greatest total weight of the three target species - one tuna, one dolphin, and one wahoo.nbsp;This is a dead bait or lures only amp; no chumming tournament. Last yearrsquo;s Grand Champion was MR. LTD for the second year in a row, who brought in an aggregate weight of 171.9 pounds for their top 3 fish In 2018, we had three tournament records broken; MR. LTD with a 99 lb wahoo and a 115 lb yellowfin tuna, and PLUM KRAZY reeled in a 63 lb dolphin. Needless to say, every year is an exciting experience

On behalf of the Executive Committee and our charity partners,nbsp;The Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation,nbsp;The Marine Industry Education Foundation, andnbsp;Waterfront Way Foundation, Winnerrsquo;s Circle Charities thanks you for your support.

The 2020 Gala will be on Saturday, April 4th at The Club at Admiralrsquo;s Cove, and tickets are $250 a person. Purchase your tickets by clicking here.gt;

Entries are limited for the Winnerrsquo;s Circle Charities Fishing Tournament, as it is preferred to keep it a friendly and private competition. If you have been invited or are a returning competitor, pay your entry fees by clicking here. gt;

Sailfish are biting from Stuart to Boca in the 150-300rsquo; range, with a few boats releasing 10+ sails. Try kite fishing with hearty live baits like goggle-eyes or blue runners. Trolling with small feathers during lowlight should help you catch a few football-sized blackfin tuna, and the smaller ones can be used to catch wahoo, which has been hot due to this mild cold front, especially in the Bahamas. If youre thinking of heading to the Bahamas for the first time, readnbsp;How to Cross From Florida to the Bahamas By Boat.

Fair numbers of snapper have been prevalent around 100rsquo; off of Jupiter, with a few cobia here and there as well.

The cold front has slowednbsp;snooknbsp;down a bit, but mullet are still running. Live mullet or top water plugs at low-lighted times of the day near bridges, Juno Pier, Jupiter Jetty, or Palm Beach Inlet should bring you some bites during outgoing tides.

The Juno Beach pier and the beach has been pretty sold, with lots of bluefish, large mackerel, jacks, runners, pompano, jacks, and redfish.nbsp;Juno Baitnbsp;recommends a Rapala X-Rap or Yo-Zuri Mag Darter for some solid action. Mangrove snapper have been feasting on live shrimp at the pier this week as well.

nbsp;

NOAA Weather Forecast:

Friday, 11/2: Mostly Sunny with a 50 chance of showers, High of 86 degrees, South winds at 15-20 knots,nbsp;2-3rsquo; seas at 4 second periods, Intracoastal waters anbsp;moderatenbsp;chop.

Saturday, 11/3: Mostly Cloudy with a 40 chance of showers, High of 81 degrees, Northwest winds at 5-10 knots becoming northeast in the afternoon, 2rsquo; seas at 4 second periods, Intracoastal waters a light chop.

Sunday, 11/4: Mostly Cloudy with a 50 chance of showers, High of 85 degrees, Southeast winds at 10-15 nbsp;knots, seasnbsp;2-3rsquo;, , Intracoastal waters a moderate chop.

As usual, have a safe, fun weekend on the South Florida water, and send any good pictures or stories to Lacey@wfpcc.com for a chance to be featured
